With all that had occurred in the last few minutes, Sloan sat quietly trying to discern one thing from another. It seemed rather fairytale-like for two people separated by half the globe to stumble upon each other in the park and suddenly be wrapped into a little romance. In reality, they had only known each other through Sophia but now with so little known about one another they we an ‘item’—or so it seemed.
His arm stretched leisurely across the back of the bench while Sloan stared out into the park with its verdant sprigs of grass trembling in the faint tropical breeze and being trampled under the feet of rambunctious children and excitable dogs. At his right, he was aware of someone burrowing into his side with the confidence of someone who had just been privy to a tantalizing kiss. Alayna. Once upon a time, she had been so timid around him that flirtatious jokes were the only way to put her at ease; but now with newfound boldness, her head rested in the crook of his arm, her breathing labored with fatigue and what Sloan hoped was excitement.
She was certainly not your typical woman but perhaps that’s what he enjoyed best, atypical women. Sophia hadn’t been typical either with her gentility and class that was so soft that it belonged in a different era. But her best friend was nothing like that angel of mercy; Alayna was to wild and untamable, opinionated and somewhat brash. He could have never gotten away with half the stuff he said unless a blushing Sophia was what he had wanted. Chuckling, Sloan looked down at Alayna as she spoke in her breathy laugh, “Well tell me some of them then? That'll give me enough time to come up with a comeback.” Was she serious? For a moment, Sloan just grinned unabashed by the request although he refrained from speaking the rather lewd jokes that had crossed his mind.
“Let’s see, how much do I want to see you blush?” he mused, running his finger tips along the apples of her cheeks, “The first one had to do with spurs and how much damage you could do with those. Not my best, I know. Then I had the classic how your lover would be ensured a nice ride—dirty enough for you yet? And then,” Sloan grinned but left the string of jokes at that just to mess with Alayna’s head. He couldn’t help but allow a boisterous laugh to escape his thin lips and startle the poor Labrador sitting at his side.
The creature at his side scurried out of his lap at the suggestion of ice cream and Sloan found himself being pulled in the direction of the truck before he could protest. What charms ice cream had over children and women he would never know but he enjoyed the sprite-like giggle that absconded Alayna’s lips as she surveyed the selection, “And how exactly do you plan on me paying you back?” she teased, her hands running up and down his bicep.
“You can use your imagination,” he smirked, unfolding his wallet and feeling the folded edges of his money. Taking out three singles, he paid the man and gently coaxed Alayna away from the numerous children biting at their heels by the small of her back. Ice cream was not his thing but listening to Alayna giggle and lap up her Popsicle in a race against the clock was entertaining in itself. Sloan merely sat back, allowing Alayna to position herself against him and finish her ice pop without complaint as he allowed the sensation of night falling to engulf them all.
The ice cream truck’s tune faded into the distance; the squeal of children on the playground became a murmur; the browbeating sun lost its luminescence as the moon took her place in the inky sky above. Nighttime; and so much like that first evening in the park when both had stretched out on the lawn talking and teasing one another; they had been complete strangers then and now look at them.
“Tell me something about yourself that I don’t already know.”
Sloan sat quietly for a moment, trying to recall what Alayna did know about him, “Well, I play the piano well… I’m an army brat… have a kid brother and sister. My life really isn’t that exciting so why don’t you just tell me about you, hmm?”

I Think About You Baby ------------------------------------------------------- and i dream about you all the time “Let’s see, how much do I want to see you blush?” This teasing game was something that herself and Sloan did. She didnt know why but it was always so much fun. Now she could see that Soan was having a good time teasing her. Though what he had just said was a slight cliche. Alayna decided to let the comment slide for if she said anything to it she would have been very mean. So all she could do in a nice wasy was giggle a little and wait for him to continue. “The first one had to do with spurs and how much damage you could do with those. Not my best, I know. Then I had the classic how your lover would be ensured a nice ride—dirty enough for you yet? And then,” Everytime Sloan managed to get a joke out Alayna would giggle and laugh at them blushing with every step of the way. His jokes were getting dirtier and dirtier making Alayna think hard to think of a comeback. He had gotten her good that time. Definetely not dirty enough yet...we'll just have to try some of those out sometime. Alayna said with a seducing grin. Hearing Sloan let out his first real laugh made Alayna smile. She loved to hear him laugh and only hoped that he would start laughing more often. He had an amazing smile and an amazing laugh that seemed to take Alaynas breath away. As the sun begin to go down the air became very cooled. At first Alayna quite enjoyed it, but after a few minutes Alayna got the goosebumps. It was very strange how one moment it was extremelly hot and the next minute it was cold.
She was so comfortable around Sloan that now she was just wondering where this would go next. “You can use your imagination,” Alayna smiled as they both finished their ice cream and Alayna allowed herself to burrown deeper into Sloans arms. The night was upon thm fully now. I bet I can come up with a few things. She said dreamily. With one of her hands she played with Sloans hands taking in every single detail. Every scar, every little wrinkle, and the curves of his fingers. Closing her eyes she let her hands feel every part of his fingers and arms. There were just so many things that she wanted to take in. Alayna wanted to get to know every part of him and everything about him. “Well, I play the piano well… I’m an army brat… have a kid brother and sister. My life really isn’t that exciting so why don’t you just tell me about you, hmm?” Another smile spread across her face at first but then it faded. Her life wasnt all that interesting either, only she had a lot more dramatic things in it then he did. There were just so many things in her own life that was scary and unbelieveable that she could only dream of letting the past go. But if her and Sloan were going to be together then they needed to know everything about eachother. I grew up in Rome. My father was a lawyer and my mother an artist. Growing up was amazing and my parents loved eachother. They had the life I always wanted. Then my father died..and after that I guess I began living on a whim. There was Shane, and then my mother died. My life is just one bad country song why would you want to hear about that? Alayna said with another added laugh. Though this time her laugh was half hearted as she began to play back the memories of her life. After her father had died her mother had fallin apart. Alayna had been the daddys girl to begin with and so with her mother so distant the entire family fell apart.
Suddenly Alayna heard a jolt of thunder. It was so loud that poor Ninana jumped back onto the bench and almost knocked Alayna and Soan off. The large dog was terrified of thunderstorms but Alayna had another motive. She had heard it was supposed to start raining, but not right then she thought it would be in the next few days. Looking up you could barely see the storm clouds, only the occasional blast of lightning. The few people that were left were running around screaming because it soon began to rain. Alayna let out a laugh, it wasnt a REALLY hard rain that came in all slanted, it was just the perfect rain that came straight down. The bolts of lightning were less frequent but the thunder continued to roll. Alayna got off of the bench and as a result Ninana burrowed herself into Sloan until she finally jumped off the bench and curled up underneath it. Alayna was standing in the grass laughing and spinning allowing the rain to just fall all over her. Alayna loved the rain, it was like her perfect fantasy.

Though night was quickly approaching it wasn’t the only change in the atmosphere that Sloan felt. The air had gone from muggy dampness to cool breezes and the smell of rain met his nostrils like cologne; rain, he would have known the fresh scent anywhere. His senses heightened though no one else seemed to notice, least of all Alayna who was still nestled comfortably in Sloan’s arm. One thing those blessed with sight seemed to take for granted was their instinct; Maximus perked up at the side, releasing an almost inaudible howl and drew closer to Sloan’s side. Yes, he was aware of the change too and awaited the ripping of the cloud cover’s seams and the flow of cool water that would pelt the earth in due time.
He found himself in tune with everything except the woman who was practically draped over him. Sloan shook his head to clear it of all the observations he had been making with the change in the weather shortly after the Italian warble interrupted his train of thought, “…we'll just have to try some of those out sometime.” If that wasn’t provocative Sloan wasn’t certain what was. One side of his lip curled into a mischievous smile, his brow mirroring the same curve. Those once callused hands clung to his arm, tantalizing the skin with gentle caresses as she acquainted herself with his body, “I bet I can come up with a few things,” Alayna murmured in such a hushed tone that Sloan with his bat-like hearing had to strain to listen in. She was becoming more feisty and seductive as if to match each remark Sloan made; the tenor and gestures of each deliberate action drew him into her voluptuous web and enamored him.
“Is that an invitation? Because,” Sloan smiled weakly, pulling the hand which Alayna had so carefully studied from her grasp in order to gently hold the smooth lines of her jaw, “I’ll RSVP right now,” he assured her, his lips caressing the nape of her neck, slowly but steadily creeping up her sun-kissed flesh until those rose colored lips were embraced by his, “I say give me the time and the place, bella. I’ll be there.”
When changing the subject, Sloan had expected random tidbits of information as he had given, nothing heavy like the way his father treated him like a leper or the brother who loathed his very existence. Those sort of things seemed a bit too ominous for a lovely evening in the park but Alayna ventured into the depths of her past, showing a level of trust which he had not been sure she could give yet. Sloan knew that she had been abused from what Sophia had hinted at and it made the timidity in which she advanced more reasonable. “I grew up in Rome. My father was a lawyer and my mother an artist. Growing up was amazing and my parents loved each other. They had the life I always wanted. Then my father died... and after that I guess I began living on a whim. There was Shane, and then my mother died. My life is just one bad country song why would you want to hear about that?”
Sloan’s face became grave, those laugh lines dissolving as she spoke truthfully with him even though Alayna tried to laugh it off. No, he recognized the lost joviality and lithe nature of her giggle and took it to heart, “The same reason you probably want to hear about my slave driver of a father and bastard of a brother because you--”
But the moment of seriousness stopped with the loud crackling of thunder and lightning from overhead. Ninana yelped and cowered out of fear while Maximus remained like a statue at the side of the bench. Everyone was running for cover except Alayna who seemed to be energized by the rain and sprinted off onto the lawn laughing. Sloan stroked Ninana’s head and quickly rose as the first drops of rain pelted to crown of his head, “Bella, what are you doing? Come on, let’s get out of the rain,” he suggested, holding out his hand, “Your dog is going to have a heart attack if she hears more thunder.”

Everytime We Touch ------------------------------------------------------- i get this feeling Alayna loved the rain more than anything else in the world. When it was raining Alayna felt like she could fly and be totally free without any worries. It was like being drunk while riding a horse, though that could turn out badly. Alayna had only done that a couple of times, never on Navarano though. She had no doubt that Nava would take care of her if she ended up drunk off her ass and riding him home. Grazia, the old man, was the one she had been riding and Grazia just allowed Alayna to kick the snot out of him and yell at him until she passed out in the saddle. Alayna woke up the next morning at Sophia's apartment Grazia tied downstairs. Alayna had felt so bad when she saw all the spur marks and burn marks from hitting him with the reins. And still the stallion had refused to go as fast as a trot because he knew that Alayna needed to get home. That had been the last time Alayna had ever gotten drunk. It was then that she realized who he as hurting around her and Alayna did not want to go through all that again. Though you think Alayna would have learned seeing her mother drink for so many years. Being an alcoholic had been hard on Alayna and it had taken a long time for her to get over it. Thankfully Alayna had Aiden and Sophia to help her through all that. All the nightly spasms and begging for a drink. Now Alayna had been sober for two years nown and there was no going back.
The air wasnt as hot and humid as it had been before. Jarring herself from her thoughts as Sloan began to speak Alayna felt his hand move away from hers and begin carressing her cheek. “Is that an invitation? Because,” Her head leaned into his figures allowing her lips to kiss them until he spoke again. “I’ll RSVP right now,” Alayna giggled as he said that her eyes closing when his soft lips began playing with her neck. That was one big turn on for her. Trying hard not to shake and take advantage of the situation. Alayna wanted to, but what if he didnt want to? “I say give me the time and the place, bella. I’ll be there.” Feeling his lips meet hers as the rain began to fall Alayna let one hand go up his biceps and carress his neck. Their kiss was brief but it was passionate. Looking around Alayna say that there was no one around, perfect. “The same reason you probably want to hear about my slave driver of a father and bastard of a brother because you--” Alayna didnt even let him finish and for a moment Alayna felt sorry. But that was Alayna, she did crazy things at crazy times. Standing in the rain she raised her arms and looking up allowing the water to just drench her. Now the entire park was empty, on one side was the zoo on another side was the skate park and ride in the middle was the central park. The only ones around other than herself, Sloan and the dogs were the people driving down the street. There was of course Alaynas truck was parked a couple of blocks away so if they wanted to make a getaway then that would be the way.
Alayna was suddenly stopped when Ninana began to bark. She had forgotten how scared Ninana was of storms and she immediately felt bad. “Bella, what are you doing? Come on, let’s get out of the rain, Your dog is going to have a heart attack if she hears more thunder.” Whistling Ninana skittishly skulked out from underneath the bench and came to Alaynas side. Alayna had put the cover over the back of the truck so she figured the dogs could go back there to try and keep at least some of her truck dry. Taking Sloans hand and watching as Max immediately came to attention at Sloans side Alayan turned them towards where her truck was parked. Come on..my truck is parked over here. Then the rain began coming down harder and another loud clash of thunder sent Ninana howling like a scared little child. Keeping a grip on Sloans hand she began running towards the truck with a little squel as a bolt of lightning struck nearby. The storm was getting worse as the moments went on and they needed to get to safety. Reaching Alaynas truck she opened the tailgait and the window for the cover so the dogs could get through. Ninana immediately jumped in moving towards the back window into the cab of the truck curled up in a ball like the lightning was going to come through the truck to get her. Alayna helped Max into the back and took off his harness so the dog could get comfortable with Sloan still by her side. Shutting the tailgate and the window so no more rain could get in Alayna was about to get in when she slammed the drivers side door and turned around. Right here. Right now. Was all Alayna said as she leaned against the truck waiting for Sloan to make a move.

One thing that Sloan could not be called was fearful; not of thunder and lightning, commitment, or intimacy; he was in fact one of the few men in the world who enjoyed the stability of a long term relationship—one when you woke up each morning to the same woman, made love tirelessly without coveting another, and getting to know what made his partner tick. Such relationships were few and far in between yet Sloan had a rather strong sensation that whatever had started in Rome and blossomed that afternoon was more than just casual flirtation. Alayna seemed to open up once he had made his attraction crystalline with that one kiss that had opened up the flood gates to a half a dozen more in the span of an afternoon. Was he attracted? Most certainly; Sloan liked a woman with spirit and Alayna had the wildness that those horses she raised bathed in. She was a breath of fresh air, a cooling shower on the barren plain that had been his relationships for some time.
When Alayna clutched onto his hand and began pulling him in the direction of her truck, Sloan whistled to gain Maximus’ attention and the two dogs and their owners made a mad dash for shelter. What had been a pleasant rain shower had become a full force thunderstorm with bolts of lightning ripping through the heavens in crackling echoes and thunder roaring like an angered lion in the savannah. Sloan’s shirt was soaked through and sticking to his toned torso, his usually neat hair plastered down onto his forehead and darkened by the rain water. The lawn had become a swamp land, the water no longer seeping into the mud but instead settling at the surface in large puddles; Sloan could hear the sloshing of their feet through the Miamian everglades and could hear the change in Alayna’s breathing as she lead them onward until slowing down at her truck.
The dogs seemed relieved at the metallic squeaking of the tailgate being opened for them and the skittish Ninana was the first to climb in while Maximus remained planted at Sloan’s side like the obedient guide dog he was. His master stroked his head and ushered him forward where Alayna was able to help him pounce up into the back of the truck. Claws tapped on the metal, perforating the cling-clang of heavy rain drops. Sloan stood silent, no longer attempting to stay dry as he was a lost cause; he was soaked through to the skin and could feel each new droplet chill his skin.
Alayna closed the truck and opened a door at the sound Sloan ran his hand along the edge of the truck and began making his way to the other side only to hear the door shut abruptly once more. His stride falter and Sloan casually turned back into her direction, a question mark etched into his pale, drenched brow. “Right here. Right now,” Alayna commanded.
Sloan was struck dumb, completely at a loss. What was supposed to be right here and right now? What was Alayna trying to say? The words seemed to weigh on his tongue like lead and his only response was a concealed chuckle as he leaned with one hand against the truck. Well, that had been rather fast; his RSVP must have arrived at the speed of light. Her voice was seductive and husky from the run but spoke volumes to a blind man who could not see her advances—the way she pressed herself against the side of the truck and looked in his direction with bedroom eyes.
Stepping forward, Sloan trapped Alayna against her truck, his palms pressed against slick metal on either side of her curvaceous body, “You never cease to amaze me, bella. I do believe that it’s party time,” he smirked, with each word his lips had drawn closer to hers until finally cementing themselves to the soft petals with their sweet nectar, “Let’s get out of the rain, hmm? And out of those wet clothes.”
